When a lot of people hear of long term care they nod and relax. The do so because they think their health insurance policy also covers long term care. If you want long term health care/health insurance, you'll have to get both a health and long term care insurance policies separately.

Contrary to popular belief, no health insurance policy really provides long term care coverage. Medicare and Medigap do not. If you doubt it take out some time to read through the fine print of your health insurance plan or visit your state's department of insurance.

If you consider that the US Department of Health and Human Services projects that 4 out of every American aged 65 years or more have a 50% chance of needing long term care within their lifetime, you'll see that this is disturbing.

Apart from those who can easily spend $100,000 a year for a few years without becoming ruined financial, you need long term care insurance, period.

OK, there's an exception: If you're so poor that you qualify for Medicaid. Moreover, if you qualify, you'll spend your period of long term care on someone else's terms and not how you dreamed or planned to spend your last days. And, Medicaid is welfare.

You will save much money on long term care/health insurance if you obtain and compare quotes from quotes sites. Visiting not less than three quotes sites increase the chances that you'd make more savings. The plain reason for this is that you will obtain a greater number of quotes from a wider range of insurance companies. This increases your chances of getting better offers.
